Organized crime – a source of corruption and violence – is incompatible with a democratic rule of law and a civilized society. Tackling it intelligently and effectively is essential to reducing violence, fighting corruption and strengthening our democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Developed jointly by Di\u00e1logo Interamericano, Funda\u00e7\u00e3o FHC <\/em>e Escola de Seguran\u00e7a Multidimensional do Instituto de Rela\u00e7\u00f5es Internacionais da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo<\/em>, the text analyses public policies to address insecurity in S\u00e3o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It addresses the challenges posed by organized crime and proposes a change of direction in security policies, with greater coordination between government agencies, security forces and levels of government, more investment in technology, and a systemic vision of criminal justice, social protection and local development policies.<\/p>\n\n\n
