In the fourth episode of the series, Renata Mielli and Paulo Ren\u00e1<\/strong> discuss the regulation of social media platforms<\/strong>. They also discuss the context of drafting the Marco Civil da Internet and how to mitigate current problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renata Mielli says: ‘This model of responsibility, whereby the neutral intermediary provider is only held responsible for third-party content after receiving a court order, has lost some of its meaning for social media platforms because they are no longer just neutral intermediaries.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paulo Ren\u00e1: ‘If the platform is involved in the paid promotion of content, it can be required to take on an editorial role and assess whether that content is suitable for promotion.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Renata Mielli \u2014<\/strong> journalist and PhD candidate at the Escola de Comunica\u00e7\u00e3o e Artes da Universidade de S\u00e3o Paulo, is the coordinator of the Comit\u00ea Gestor da Internet, in Brazil. She coordinated the Centro de Estudos da M\u00eddia Alternativa Bar\u00e3o de Itarar\u00e9 from 2010 to 2023 and was a member of the Coaliz\u00e3o Direitos na Rede from 2016 to 2023.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Paulo Ren\u00e1 \u2014<\/strong> jurist and PhD candidate in Law, State and Constitution at the Universidade de Bras\u00edlia.
